It was not much of a battle, the floods from the motion-sniffer had stunned the creature long enough for me to cut it to pieces with the pulse rifle. I didn’t even wait for the auto-lock, choosing to point spray instead. Smoke drifted out of the gaping hole in its smooth cranium…I’m just an exterminator I thought to myself.
Standing in a pool of the acid blood I was thankful to have the extra coating of neutralizer on my boots. It would eat through soon, if I just stood here long enough.
“meep…Pickman!!!…Report!”
“On my way control, double-time!” I remain standing, looking down at the fluorescent blood that seemed to cascade down the dead critter’s head in a life of its own, it was absolutely beautiful. My reflection stared back at me with indifference.
“Team 2-Alpha is waiting in bay #7, get a move on, this is now considered a Search and Rescue mission”
Turning to scoop up the sniffer I replied “Whaddaya mean Diego?”
The warped walls echoed the splashing of my boots in the yellow muck.
“meep…ten minutes ago we lost contact with team 1…”
“Oh shit!…gimme ‘5’ control, I’ll be in that transport…and have someone meet me with a load-out pack”.

I grimaced and ran harder.
