Early the next morning I filled in the hole that my partner had dug with him in it. It was fitting that he was buried here after the valiant effort put forth by him to save our lives. I took all but one of his ration bars and put them in my slim pack, I wanted him to have one more for the afterlife. There was little water left after the pursuit from the spyballs…I’ll die of thirst before I run out of food, I thought grimly as I hiked towards the western mountains. After climbing for what seemed like hours I looked back upon the carnage behind me. I now could see where the dead spyball had been thrown and efficiently buried. I gazed all around and could see no sign of the laughing death. I fought my hunger pains and pressed on…
